What We Do

Empowering Young Minds

ARACY and UNICEF Australia use the Australian Children’s Wellbeing Index to guide policymakers, service providers, and communities in setting priorities and taking action. Through a series of publications, we explore each of the six wellbeing domains, identifying key challenges and opportunities for improvement. Our goal is to create a more equitable environment where all children, regardless of background or location, have the opportunity to thrive.

Focusing on Learning

The latest of the key domains explored in our series is Learning. Education is a fundamental right, but not all children in Australia have equal access to quality and inclusive education. This paper on the Learning domain examines the status of education for Australian children, highlighting both achievements and ongoing challenges.

While significant progress has been made in providing universal education, disparities remain in educational outcomes, particularly for children from low socio-economic backgrounds, regional and remote areas, and First Nations communities. Barriers such as poverty, discrimination, and geographic isolation continue to affect their access to quality learning experiences.

Key Data and Insights

The Learning report highlights key data, offering a snapshot of how children across Australia are faring in terms of their education and learning outcomes. By identifying areas where we are succeeding and those in need of improvement, we aim to focus attention on the policy areas that require urgent action. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed in learning, contributing to their overall wellbeing and long-term success.

This report is part of our ongoing commitment to measuring and improving the wellbeing of Australian children, in collaboration with UNICEF Australia.
